Organ Donation committee:
As a member of the Review of Organ and Tissue Donation Procedures select committee I have been involved in a range of meetings and hospital visits this month to research this issue.
The committee is examining whether an opt-out or presumed consent system should be introduced in Queensland. The committee has now released an Issues Paper, and is seeking submissions from the public, and professional and community organisations.
To view the Issues Paper and/or make a submission, visit www.parliament.qld.gov.au/Organ. I have copies of the Issues Paper in my Currie Street, Nambour office. The closing date for submissions is August 15, 2008.
Electricity complaints:
I am in the process of organising for the Energy Ombudsman to visit the Sunshine Coast to meet with consumers who are having problems with their electricity supplier. In response to numerous complaints, I have sought solutions from the Energy Minister Geoff Wilson, who is coordinating a visit with the ombudsman.
In the meanwhile, if householders have concerns about electricity accounts which seem to be too high or are inaccurate, they need to contact their electricity provider to have it adjusted. If you are unable to resolve a dispute with your supplier over your electricity account, contact the Energy Ombudsman who can provide information and/or a free and independent dispute resolution service to Queensland energy consumers. Phone 1800 662 837 or visit website: www.eoq.com.au.
