Mapleton Memorial Park
I recently met with council parks officers and committee members from the Mapleton RSL to discuss the upgrade of the war memorial in the park. We looked at upgrading lighting and providing power at the memorial site as well as re-designing garden beds and laying a concrete footpath around the memorial site to provide a level surface for events. The site should be ready in time for next year’s Anzac Day activities.
Mapleton Lilyponds
I visited the lilyponds site while in Mapleton recently and although I can well understand the frustration of residents about the state of the site, improvements are being made. The pedestrian bridge is well underway and expected to be completed shortly. Works have been hampered again by wet weather and unfortunately as the soil has a high clay content; it takes a long time to dry. Topsoiling and soil liming will commence when the site is dry enough. Please bear with us, it is a frustrating time for all, but the results should be worth it.
