Criollo’s Chocolatterie is a brand new chocolate/coffee shop located in Mapleton, on the corner of Obi Obi and Post Office Road. Owners, Dave and Wendy Richardson, are enjoying meeting the locals and tourists alike and introducing them to the menu offered.
Criollo’s Chocolatterie offers couverture chocolates made by Adora Homemade Chocolates of Sydney. Criollo’s own homemade chocolates made by Dave are also proving popular. Hot Chocolate is available in various flavours, all made with real dark chocolate and steamed milk.
One of the main drawcards at this shop is the Award winning Pioneer Roast Coffee Mocha Java, freshly roasted at the Yandina roastery.
Imagine how difficult it is to walk past this shop with the aroma of chocolate and amazing coffee wafting through your nostrils!
But it doesn’t end there. Devonshire teas or raisin toast are available as well as light lunch offerings and soup of the day in winter. For a winter dessert why not try a steaming chocolate pudding with ice cream and real chocolate sauce drizzled on top? Or for that really full-on chocolate experience, why not surrender to the holy grail of chocolate, a bowl of molten chocolate fondue and fruit/marshmallow sticks to dip, eat and enjoy.
The name ‘Criollo’s Chocolatterie’ holds lots of meanings. The ‘criollo’ cacao plant produces a highly prized and most exquisite (and often temperamental) chocolate product. But a ‘criollo’ is also a beautiful horse breed from Sth America, and Sth America is where chocolate had it’s origin before the Spanish conquistadors brought it home as a chocolate beverage. Its popularity eventually spread throughout Europe and the United Kingdom by the 16th C.
Because this is fundamentally a coffee shop, but also one that offers and even makes some of their own chocolate, Wendy and Dave decided to put the words Chocolate and Latte together to form the word Chocolatterie. Thus we have created ‘Criollo’s Chocolatterie’!
Criollo’s Chocolatterie has inside and outside tables at ground level, and a cosy upper room complete with lounge area and fireplace, as well as balcony tables. All of this is capped off with Old World décor and the most amazing view that is appreciated by patrons.
For enquiries phone Wendy or Dave at Criollo’s Chocolatterie on 5478 6657 or better still, come and see for yourself. Criollo’s Chocolatterie is open every day from 9.00am to 4.00pm except Saturday.
